    Default Loss Of Power And EML Light keeps coming on

    Hi,

    I recently brought a Vectra DTI so I thought I'd join here. Apologies if I post incorrectly of in the wrong area at first.

    I'm having problems everytime I drive the car, after about 15 minutes the Engine Management Light comes on and I go into the Vauxhall 'limp home mode' as i've heard it called. Lack of power over 2500. Very annoying. If I turn the ignition off and back on again it recovers but it's only a matter of time before it happens again.

    My wife had a Zafira which had similar problems and it turned out to be the EGR valve. Is it likely to be something similar. I've also noticed an occasional whistle when the car is in motion (not that loud) and was wondered if this could be related.

    Any feedback would be appreciated. I think I need to put it on a diagnostic, local mechanic thinks it could be crank sensor but wants £50 to put it on diagnostic, however can pick one up on ebay for £25 that goes through laptop. Would anyone recommend this?

    Check for splits in your vacuum pipes it’s quite common On the DTI for them to degrade and split. The noise you can there is probably air being sucked in through a split in one of the pipes.
    There is a really good thread on the forum regarding this problem posted by Innes. I will see if I can find a link and post it up for you.
