    Default Now its the flywheel!!!

After having the thrust bearing replaced under warranty, and the severe rattling still being present. VX now inform me (5 days later) the flywheel needs replacing! but there are no parts in the uk so are awaiting delivery! yet another 5 days until it goes back in.

Why was this not found when the gear box was apparantly removed for the thrust bearing replacement?

My signum has only done 46K, and all motorway miles.

They tell me its an un common fault, anyone know any different?

Rob woodhouse had his flywheel done, and Audi regularly change the DM flywheel with every clutch change.

They should have checked it for play and noise when the had the 'box off..

As GSi 3.2 says, these cars have dual mass flywheel, like two flywheels connected by springs and dampers. Its meant to give slow speed drivabilty whilst maintaing cruising mpg. Matt had his replaced on his old 1.9 and his new one I think.

I was working in Ipswich today and called in to a Vx dealer and asked if they could look at the noise. i didnt tell them it had been looked at by my local vx dealer.

They willingly came out and took a good look/ listen to the noise. they believe its either the gearbox or flywheel?
i suggested the thrust bearing (as this was what my vx dealer had replaced)
they said "No" as the thrust bearing normally continually makes a noise when faulty or worn!

Should i ask for the clutch to be changed at the same time? and if it proves to be the flywheel rattling like crazy could this be damaging other parts

I just hope it gets sorted soon, its driving me mad sitting at the lights ready to move off and passers by look at my car and screw up their face as if the engines about to blow up!! it really sounds awful...

as vx will have the car for about 3 days to replace the flywheel and the car is in warranty, should i be offered a courtesy car?

In short, you should be offered a like car, not a fridge or a corsa, while they repair your car.. the dual mass flywheel is a vibration damping system, so prolonged neglect may damage the gearbox, but it's unlikely.

Should you change the clutch?? Unlikely unless you've towed over a mega mileage.. they will inspect it when they dis-assemble the clutch anyway, just ask them to report on it's condition.. they won't pay for a new clutch so it will be up to you to stump up for it.

Yeah, it's really common, a local taxi operator in my area has had to have nearly every one replaced, think he's got somewhere in the region of 50 Vectras, 19CDTi's.

Blag blag blag, thats all you get from dealers now, couldn't be honest if their lives depended on it.

I have to call vx tomorrow to ensure all parts are in, i will enquire about a courtesy car then.

If they offer the "C'mon" corsa, splatered with knitted cartoon characters they can shove it! i would sooner use the works astra van!

Thanks for the help and advice!
