Default buying and reselling used cars

has anyone ventured into this, i ask as car forum members, i assume everyone is into cars, has anyone thought about/researched into making a sideline living purchasing, fettling with and reselling cars for a profit. im not talking investing huge amounts, just searching out that bargain, cleaning mopping and fixing minor faults to resell?

im always on autotrader/ebay etc and do see bargains what i think..oooh thats cheap and looks good.

im an ex mechanic also, and do do car detailing aswell so i could do minor work myself thus cutting out fettling costs.

    any thoughts or experiences guys?

yeah again thats fine, id be looking at 1 at a time tbh, until i got a feel for it, 200-300 profit a go.

just thinking in this climate, cheap cars, cheap to tax,run and insure would be the way forward

yep, well ive been to see a franchise today, sourcing cars for trade, and i dont think theres much in that market at minute, but low value buying and selling, minimal outlay and a couple of hundred quid profit a go i think is worth it.

buying from auction is the best way for profit, a lot of franchises have long term partner traders who have all their trade ins these days. bare in my the cost of advertising and how long it could take you to shift a car within your profits.
Also look into what prices you can sell for, e.g a 10 year old corsa and a 10 year old astra probably at auction would get near identical prices, yet privately one may be worth more than the other

might be handy to get in touch with a local dealer, he may be interested in punting old cars your way, less hassle than sending to auction you never know

yeah, i think auctions may be more costly, private sales i would aim at as people will want to shift there cars at a cost price for a number of reasons, and they are more likely to have tax and test unlike auctions.

also can test in private sales etc.

just thinking in the current financial climate the low cost car market may have a opening for small time traders
