My first few miles into Germany were scary...the smoke was unbelievable...turns out that all it needed was to have its nuts squeezed. Driving it normally here and it's smoking again, nothing too dramatic though Mine has 143,000 miles on the clock (close to 160k genuine on ECU)

In my opinion, if there was a bigger issue with your car, like boost issues, it wouldn't reach 130mph on a private road so easily...

My runs smooth when cold too. When warm it rattles from the bottom half of the engine.
I think it smokes more when warmed up, because it's a bit restricted when cold.

    its weird isnt it...
with my last car a rover mg zr TD it was a four cylinder 2.0.
he head gasket went, i blew on the exhaust side which presurized the coolant causing it to be expelled through the filler cap.
i drove it like this as i had to use the car, kept on topping it up with water, but as the car began to overheat you could feel it start to run rough before the temp gauge ramped up. when tehe signum warms up and runs rough it reminds me of the mg!.

My mate and me swapped cars for a short journey of 30 miles on the motorway...I think my car is seriously ill...the amount of smoke it puts out is unbelievable. It smokes CONSTANTLY and grey.........it needs new SCV's but stil cmon...it made me ill just to watch it smoke, when I thought it didn't smoke unless under full load......

    Celes,
Why are you thinking that your car needs new SCV's? Did you check fuel pressure on common rail? I think that you should take some good interface to your car, drive several km on highway and check all parameters readed by ECU. With full load the pressure of fuel on common rail should about 145-150MPa without load about 30MPa.
And one more thing. Did you clean the small filter on valve, which control VNT? You can also replace it with the same filter from valve wich control the throttle position (extinguishing flap).

The Pressure of the common rail was checked thoroughly via Tech 2 and there is a significant difference between desired and actual fuel pressure. I'm suspecting the SCV's (if not the whole pump), because I've tried it all, replaced the fuel filter, tried additives etc. The car starts very poorly and judders/shakes with complete power loss at 1700rpm generating smoke...typical for SCV failure or general fuelling issue (like blocked/contaminated filter). I spoke to a Denso specialist and he reckons it's a faulty SCV causing all my power loss problems. He also said that the a SCV can stick causing the car to sometimes work fine, the next day not so fine lol...

The turbo on my car was replaced by the previous owner and I think it has now covered about 80-90,000km since fitted.

Doesn't looks good :/ I had only one such case when my car was shaking under full load. But it was happend from about 2500rpm up. The engine completly lost a power and change over gears between 4 and 5, 5 and 4 (I have automatic gearbox). I had this problem several days, after that when all sensors were cleaned ( also inductive sensor on top of camshaft sprocket), when the fuel filter was checked (the new one was mounted about 3 weeks earlier) , when the small filters from vacum valves (throttle and VNT control valves) was replaced (this one from the valve, wich controls VNT was dirty) the engine running realy better and my problem was gone.
When I replaced fuel filter, I did fuel system cleaning by Diesel Spulung (Liqui Moly)
Here you have some video of this procedure:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3zpw...eature=related

I mounted the new filter, poured the liquid directly in to the fuel filter housing, and closed the cover of housing. Then You have to start the motor for about 25 minutes and changing the engine speed up to 2500rpm.
