    Default MOT ALL brake pipes badly corroded

    Just had car in for MOT failed!!!
    offside track rod end ( fair enough)
    nearside front brake pipe excessively corroded
    centre to NSR brake pipe excessively corroded
    centre to OSR brake pipe excessively corroded
    offside rear brake pipe excessively corroded
    nearside rear brake pipe excessively corroded
    front exhaust bracket snapped
    offside front brake pipe slightly corroded
    front (above axle brake pipe slightly corroded


    WTF
    is this normal

    buddy had similar issue with toyota corrolla recently, all the salt over the winter mate.... bad times.

    mines is a 05 plate got i adnotice from the mot center about the from the center of the car to the back ones..

    Mine booked in next week for copper ones....

    Copper all the way. Had all my old vectra B pipes changed using copper piping in 2006 & they were still good as new when i changed it for my C last year.

    i had the same on my old golf. WD40, a soft wire brush and some wire wool had it sorted, passed on the retest no problem.

    Adding to the copper thing, I believe cupro nickel (90% copper, 10%nickel) lasts even longer/is even more corrosion resistant...

    Depends if they are corroded or just surface rust. a garage i used to used seemed to have a thing about brake pipes and failed a number of my cars on them. when i looked it was very minor surface rust, so a quick rub down and repaint job done

    Of course if they are badly corroded then replacing is the only sensible answer.
