Car wont start unless bumped?

Hi All,

another problem!!!

Lastnight i left my interior light on till this morning. I got in the car and it started fine. drove about 0.1 of a mile from my brothers house and then later on did about a 4 mile round trip. in the afternoon i decided to remove the battery for a while to clear the fault that i currently have which is posted in another thread (glow plug relay).

after replacing the connectors to the battery i jumped in the car to start it an it just clicked away and wouldnt turn over. the lights on the dash would be ok but randomly flicker off.

I checked the connector on the battery and that is tight as it can go. I got my brother to push the car and it bump started with no problem. I then did a 6-7 mile round trip, turned the car off when i got back then tried to start it. it turned over for about 2 seconds but then started clicking.

Sounds like a duff battery. Have you tested with a circuit tester? Connect some jump leads and see if it starts like that.

Check the voltage at the battery with the engine running, to rule out the alternator. Should be about 14v with engine running. If it is, then the battery's duff

Tested battery and its kicking out around 14.5, went on 40 mile round trip an it still didnt start after i turned it off and back on again. just weird how its bin fine and then all of a sudden nackard?

is there anyway something has shorted out when i connected the battery back up?

You need one hell of a battery to turn the car over. Mine started to turn over loads before it would start. Fitted new battery and zoom. If the battery goes down below to 50% it will not turn car over. My sealy battery pack will not turn mine over when it went flat. Had to get a jump start from anothe car

Think the battery shouldnt drop any lower than 10.0 while cranking????? any lower and the battery is duff. Like I said, hook another car up with yours for 5 min with jump leads and try it. Soon find out if it's a duff battery, or just swop so ones battery over just to try it?

Just thought i would update! got new battery genuine gm and it fired up sweet
