i have Pipercross filters in my 2.0T signum and 1.8 vectra.. They do make a difference, you engine breathes easier, the difference is noticeable in higher revs when your engine wants more air. As mentioned the air box mod is worth doing to enable the airbox to use the whole of the filter..

I only did the airbox mod, did not change the airfilter, cause Thaught that engine would not get idle temp as fast in the winter and I make short trips to work everyday! If wrong please correct me since I've been thinking about changing it for a k&n

I've got a K&N filter in mine, but others have the pipercross one. Whether it makes a difference or not - well, you can count on not having to buy paper ones again, just clean and re-oil.
DeJohnny, is yours petrol or diesel? Air filter won't make any difference to warming up, but diesel take 5 - 10 miles to get up to full operating temperature. Not a good idea to keep doing that, unless you give it a good blast once a month. Short trips only on diesel will see problems with emissions stuff, egr, dpf if you have one.

Courtaney sport filter for me (re branded piper cross) even the spray is piper cross just costs less.

If it's good enough for courtaney motorsport it's good enough for me.

Had K&N in the past, foam are far easier to clean out and you are also less likely to over oil them as the oil is a spray rather than pump. On my old VRS K&N was the done thing, until folk suffered MAF issues due to over oiling them.

Grumpy is correct short trips in dervs are a no no. I always ensure my mrs Saab (120 bhp 1.9 Tid 8v) gets a blast every weekend as she just does short trips. Same with mine, I always try and do at least one large ish motorway journey per week.

Quite impressed just got 414 miles from my last tank of v power 37.8 mpg on my dial. Sorry off topic was just very happy with that lol.
