    Default Choices?

Alrighty, so within the next couple of months I'll be getting one of these. The only problem I seem to have so far is whether to go Automatic or Manual.

I drove a automatic new-shape Mondeo TDCI a few months ago and absolutely loved it. Was **** easy to overtake, never skipped a beat and seemed pretty quick for an auto. I seem to be getting pretty bored of a manual, sick of changing up and down due to bad drivers and god-awful traffic. So my first question is, what are the Vectra automatics like with the cars I'm debating about getting? (I realise they're slower than manuals, but not much to make it too noticeable in everyday driving, I hope?)

Now onto the main question: What to go for? I've been looking at the 2.2i SRI, and I originally had my mind set on one, but I've also been looking at the 2.0Turbo's. Which one is better for everyday driving, but mostly, which one is better with an automatic gearbox?

Is there much change in MPG between the two? Also, what would be the MPG on them both with an autobox? (realistically)

That's about it for now Cheers

Is that driving sensible? I tend to have a heavy right foot Although that's a load better than I was expecting...Do all the auto's have the sequential manual on them?

Mine's diesel so engine wise can't help. Autobox great, as far as I know they're all auto/tiptronic. Been a couple of threads about autobox trouble with early V6's, something about cooling. Not heard of any probs otherwise. Scotty84 also has a 2.2 direct with autobox, could ask him.

I hate to tell you but your not gonna get a 2.0t auto as they didn't make them. The only autos you will get are the 2.2, 2.8v6 turbo 3.2v6, 1.9cdti, 2.2dti and the 3.0v6 cdti

With an auto box go for the 3.0V6 CDTi. If you're really loaded or don't do many miles a year go for one of the V6 petrols but in any case the 3 litre diesel lump will make you smile - I promise.

I was looking at the 3.0 diesel before I worked out I actually only do about 4000 miles a year, if that haha...Then I decided to get a petrol. Might have another gander at the V6 diesel though

I've had my 2.2 Elite Auto (2005) for almost 3 years now.

It's an excellent automatic gearbox (japanese sourced Aisin Warner as fitted in Toyotas). You'' get 25-28mpg around town and 37-42mpg on the motorway. That's not bad for a big car.

The gearbox is setup for relaxed driving (gears change up quite soon, maybe too soon). But the gearbox is adaptive so it learns your style and will change up later if that's how you drive. Come to think of it, naybe my gearbox has adapted to my slow and relaxed way of driving.

My only complaints would be that the hill sensor (for engine braking) is a little aggressive and the gearbox can be a little clunky when the gearbox is cold.

The tiptronic is useful to have, if only to relieve stress or boredom, or add variety to your your daily drive home every now and then.
