Default Brake Lights on All Time

Tonight - cruise control de activated on motorway and Check Brake switch popped up on multi function display.

Brake lights are now on all the time. I suspect that it is the switch that is activated by the brake pedal which is faulty.

I have disconnected the wire to the switch, but the lights are still on. Then removed the fuse (F6 according to my manual) on the front passenger side fuse box. But the lights are still on.

Lost patience with it tonight, so taken the brake light bulbs out of the ns and os but the boot brake light is still on - hoping it will still have a battery charge in the morning.

Any ideas for me to try in the morning.

It is an 07 1.9cdti elite.

    thanks Martin

Brake lights being permanently on is a sign of damage to the wiring loom usually caused by hot wiring a car. youve not been trying to nick your own car have you?

Going to try and replace the brake light switch as that was what the car reported was at fault first. Hope that works can't understand why the lights are stopping on with the fuse taken out.

Anyone any idea how to remove the brake switch, can't see any obvious way to get it out.

    Thanks

    Martin
