    Default 3rd duel mass flywheel!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Guys im just after a bit of advice about where i stand.

i have owned my 1.9CDTI (150) for 2 years or so its on a 2007 plate i got the car on 26000 miles and i noticed that the dmf was on the way out so got that changed just on in the warrenty limit, so then also had the EGR changed and also 8000 miles later had the DMF changed again then i have taken out the extended warrenty at a cost of £350, then today at bang on 50,000 miles its been confirmed that it needs to have another DMF.
what im after is some of your expert knowledge as to how i can get vauxhall to accept that this needs to be checked out properly as i cant belive that the DMF is going to have to be changed every year, i think that it is another fault some where. who do i contact in vauxhall to sort this as i think that i shouldnt have to pay for this to be done every year?????

    thanks in advance lee

Get it changed under your extended warranty and then sell it.

    How do you drive?

Do you start and turn off the car with the clutch depressed or drive with hard acceleration?

most likely there's a problem elsewhere in the transmission that is causing the trouble. could be difficult to establish what it is. another member had this problem before.

Thanks for ur reply's, I drive very gently I don't accelerate hard at all always changing gear at around 4,000rpm, I just find it strange that's all, if anyone noes who has had this before I'd like to pm them and ask, I am having slight trouble with gears 1-3 in the morning they go in but just as it's engaging there is a slight crunch..... Synchro maybee?
Anyway it's going in on Monday to the place that changed it last gona tell them to look elsewhere as this can't keep happening I love the car but may have to go to a 320d BMW which I'm not happy about just need good mpg as this gives me 59 which is awesome.
All my mileage is motorway driving in 6 th at 70-75 max too?
    Thanks in advance ageing guys

I would do as already said, have it changed under the warranty and then get rid, the cost for you to have the problem investigated could run in to several hundred pounds, as with any car garage they will just start recommending you change this part and then another and so on.

DMF seem to be a massive problem with the cdti cars, mine is on a 56 plate with only 46k and I've just had mine do! having only owned the car for 4 weeks, it developed a starting problem, took it to my local diesel specialist who told me it was the dmf which was at fault in turn knackered the starter motor which also needed replacing.

Touch wood it has sorted the it and the car now starts first time every time.

The DMF is a highly sensitive item however the two most common makes Sachs and LUK seem to have little between them in reliability terms, however, they do seem to be critical to how they are treated in service, there are a few members on here who have all gone well into six figure mileages with the original item, and a load of us buying cars secondhand that need or have had a new DMF (myself and my car at 34,600 miles) and now about to click 48,000 miles 10 months later.

I have read lots on these and they truly are a disaster but almost vital as without one our cars needing the DMF would destroy the gearbox in very short order.

Driving style, gear change style, rev shunt, engine braking, almost every aspect of modern driving can damage the health of the DMF sadly I feel for you as it must really really be taken up with the manufacturer as this is not reasonable or fit for purpose in it's use.

    Always change at 4000 RPM???

Mine very rarely goes above 2000 RPM during normal driving, 80,000 miles on the original DMF and clutch

Agree though it does seem odd for the DMF to give up so often
