Default Vectra Alarm Going Off All the Time

I had this problem, checked on the net and was shocked to see how many people here and on other forums spent money at main dealers etc. trying to sort it out. Change of battery, shorting sensors, removing fuses. I also noticed that some people found this had started after their car had been in for a service.

This started happening on my 07 CDTI estate on Sunday and was driving me and the neighbours mad.
I locked the car manually by pushing down the levers on each door and using the key on the driver's door. This stopped it going off.

I racked my brains to find what could be causing it. I had opened the bonnet on Saturday to do some checks - water, brake fluid.

I decided to open the bonnet and check. the cause was the plastic box housing on the battery section. It was not quite closed properly. I closed it firmly, making sure the lid was positioned correctly over the base.
    No more problems.
The under-bonnet sensor was not fully operated when the bonnet was closed as the out of position lid was pushing the bonnet up just enough to affect it.

I would suggest anyone who has this problem checks the battery box as a first step.

    Hope this helps.

The first step to sorting this issue on an estate is actually to check the contacts on the rear and rear/side windows - the contact corrodes away and makes the security system think the glass has been smashed. Quite a common issue on the estate models.

Your answer just proves why I needed to post this! How many people would start fiddling with those contacts not knowing that it could be due to a really simple cause that can be fixed in minutes?
That is why the "just serviced" reports are so important. In a service the battery would be checked. If the lid is not seated properly you will get false alarms from the under-bonnet switch.
