    Default daft exhaust noise question...

Now may be a daft question.. but is it possible to have a performance exhaust without the noise? I come from the ol' skool tuning days of cherry bombs and peco big bore 4's where free flow was trade off against noise... I'm presently running a powerflow 3" from downpipes back (decatted)and 4" tailpipe single exit on my 3.2 but after advisories each year on db levels want to get something a little quieter (plus I prefer my induction noise). Is it possible to have a free flow quieter zorst? having exhaust cams done next month and will be looking into the de-precatting the manifolds shortly after(all of which will take the db levels higher).. will be wanting to stick to a single pipe and prob add sports cat to keep emmisions in check.

The Scorpion is dissapointinly quiet IMO as std, but with the manicats removed I do not know!! It is certainly a straight through system with smooth bends, (unlike the MIJ).
MIJ on the otherhand WILL manufacture you a custom quiet exhaust, my powerflow on my Cav 2.5 was like a megaphone.............. 85Db at tickover 108Db at 5000rpm... It had to go!

i should think they can make a quieter one as custom places offer u the louder or quieter tone...throw the cat back in then it shouldnt be any louder with the precats gone.....

which reminds me im going to get a system made when my credit card is cleared, want to stick with the twin exit but unsure on bore size, and sports cat diameter, was thinkin 3'' for the single bit in the middle and then 2.5 on each exit or is that abit much?

Get a larger centre box fitted mate as there usually a perforated straight through pipe, there's no actual baffles in them, alternately you could have larger back boxes. 4 back boxes will flow better than 2 and will run quieter as the same volume off gas is now being quartered rather than halved for each box. I know its impractical with 4 boxes but thats the theory about larger back boxes.

The 2.2 SE has one back box and a huge centre section, the 2.2 YH has 2 back boxes and the centre box is more than half in size.
