Default Vectra C towbar electrics help

    Hi
I have just fitted a new towbar to my Vectra 1.8 petrol with twin electrics.

I have also fitted a universal 7 way smart bypass relay AEU7R/TEB7AS and wired up as per instructions coupling to cars live and earth as described then scotchlocking into wires for rear lights L & R, indicators L & R, brake light, fog and reverse.

Nothing works on caravan electrics when coupled up!
When indicators are switched on there is audible noise from relays in boot but no lights work on caravan.

I have also fitted a seperate relay AESSCR for the caravan fridge e.t.c. No power to that either!

There is power to some of the relay connections when I put multmeter on

    HELP

    Thanks in advance

If it was anything like the astra the fuse box in the boot had to be activated to get anything to work.

Since you're using a AEU7R/TEB7AS relay box there's no need to get the Vectra Tech2'd or worry about its electrics at all. The relay system doesn't rely on the car's electronics.

If the relays are clicking in time with the indicators there are only these possibilities:
    1. Not wired correctly to the caravan
    2. 12v battery feed not connected or not live. (The Ground must be OK or the relays wouldn't be clicking).
    3. Wiring, connectors or bulbs faulty on caravan.

    So I'd do the following:
Make sure the caravan lighting is OK - best way is to check it out with someone elses car. Alternatively connect a battery to the various pins on the connector and check that the appropriate light comes on.
If OK, check that the wiring from the relays to the car tow socket is correct. You say that it is but do it again.
If OK check that the 12v feed from the car is OK. Don't use a meter because they give a reading even with a tiny amount of leakage current. Connect a test bulb from the 12v feed to chassis.
If OK check that the connection from the caravan ground to the car chassis is sound. Use a test bulb from the 12v battery positive to the ground connection on the towing socket.
If all of that checks out OK and still not working, turn 1 indicator on and use a test bulb on each output of the relay box to find which output is live then follow your nose.
