    Default 1.8vvt

1.8 VVT Vec hatchback. Opinions on this engine/model please.

What's it like economy wise, real figures?

Any problems to look out for on this engine?

i have an on going problem with the cam sensors, i believe its a common fault, although i havnt found a sure solution yet, also they can 'knock' on start up for a second or two, which can be rectified fairly easily. As for everything else engine wise, im sure other people who are better informed will add their experiences.

I don't know about the later VVT version, but the 1.8 in my 2004 Vectra hatchback manages around 45-50mpg on average (when running on petrol), but I can get about 52mpg if I drive carefully. On LPG (mine's a Dual Fuel), it gets around 35-40mpg, but given LPG's only 69p a litre, that's equivalent in terms of money to around 80mpg on petrol

as already said above, they can be a bit rattly on start up from cold, only lasts a couple of seconds though,, 2 years and 3 months motoring from mine and i have only had to replace rear brake discs and pads in that time, the engine is sturdy and very reliable, average mpg for me , pottering to work and back and round town etc is approx 32 mpg, i love mine, its powerful enough for my needs, it'll do motorway speeds with ease......

i dont see the point of trying to get more power, if thats what you want you should've bought a 2.2 or 2.0 t

I've mine 3 years now, it's a 2006 model exclusive. MPG around the city is 29-30 as I spend alot of time starting and stoppping and going no where. 38mpg on the motorway crusing @80. I have the rattle on cold start up(should I get it looked at?) Need to keep an eye on the oil, thats all I can say. @ 140bhp it's quick enough for me for now.
