    Default insignia with a 1.4...

How the hell are that going to do it..

    A insignia with a 1.4 turbo..

    http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2011/08...a-expands.html

Probaly not going to do any better than the 1.8 (non turbo)... not even many out there with the 1.6 turbo..

Sadly it is the way the world is going Skoda do the 1.4 TSi 122 in the Superb and it is a pleasant if not earth shattering car.

I just fear in three years time or so the number of "Turbo reconditioners" springing up as people overcook bearings and fry the oil,,,,

1.6 non turbo no way i will have that in a Insignia...

yes that is the problem.. they just simply wont last.. i wont give a 1.4 turbo a long lasting chance in either insigian or superb....

but next level here is the 1.6 turbo (180 BHP).. still no thanks... but then its going way overkill with the 2.0 turbo (250 BHP).. so sadly lacking a normal aspriated engine.. (maby just a 2.5)..

It's all about emissions and crap - making the engine smaller and adding a turbo helps solve this problem. It's the development of the turbo-diesel setup that has led to sucj efficient and powerful turbos now fitted to petrol engines.

Given the weight of the Insignia, and all the crap they now bolt on to the diesels, the only engine I'd have would be the 2.8 auto in an Elite. Seeing as I'll never be able to afford to run that, the Vectra is staying...

It probably looks good on the government CO2 figures... but in reality, I can't imagine the fuel consumption is very good at all, as the engine will have to be worked hard in this heavy car. Might be a bit more fun in a corsa, but in an insignia, it looks like the worst of both worlds.

Even the diesels have taken a fair economy hit vs. the vec c...

sounds like the rep's "punishment wagon"

Why not just start making the non-turbo diesel Austin Maestro again and get the job done properly

Sign of the times. N/A petrols being replaced with turbo units. VW group and Renault even have 1.2 turbo units to replace 1.4 N/A. Also as on the upcoming Astra GTC Stop/Start technology is rearing its ugly head on some units to further reduce emissions, and introduce more problems.

I suspect the new more fuel-efficient small-capacity turbo petrols are likely to take market share away from diesels which have their own shortcomings.
