    Default Faulty fuel pump (Petrol)??

Hmmm... just wondered if anyone out there has had trouble with their fuel pump down in the tank? - Petrol motors not diesels...

Main symptom was a lack of power/boost when throttling it every few occasions (2.8 V6 Turbo)... originally thought it was to do with shifting down and putting my foot down to fast and the turbo not having time to pick up etc etc...

But my other concern as it has happened a few times now is that after the car has been sat for a few days, I go to start it as normal and it stalls...

Turn the key and leave it on electrics for a couple of seconds and then start and its fine... which seems to suggest that its a fuel supply problem?? Either the fuel line is draining which shouldn't happen as far as I am aware, or the fuel pump isn't working correctly???

Please let me know if any of you have had a similiar problem

    Cheers, Luke

When did you last change the fuel filter?

    Red face

Haha i should throw that question back at Opel who are supposed to of serviced it each year... It did it once or twice before the last service too in winter which I initially put down to the cold (-20) but thats a good point... Starting to service it myself now anyway and was due next month with an oil change etc so might do that too... You know if its just plastic self sealers on the fuel pipe on these? There isn't a Haynes for the 2.8's lol

I have a 2.2 direct and have had the pump in tank replaced. Intermittent at first, which meant it would work by the time the dealer looked at it. Final time it gave up completely. Only failed on starting, not on driving.

    Luke,

have you tried running the car "off map" to see if there is a difference ??
it may be that the map you are/have been running is too high for the pump and damaged it...

or have you filled up somewhere else recently and just got some dodgy fuel ??

Try using a fuel system cleaner additive, such as STP:

It did it on start-up before the map too on the odd occassion...

I did check out the fuel filter whilst the car was on the ramps for my exhaust quote and it doesn't look like its been changed for a while!!! and its ****** tiny so probably blocked...

I think the foot down problem as its normally when changing down and not after sitting in gear is just a lag problem as if I slam my foot down it happens, and if I slow it down slightly and 'ease' it down all be it quite fast it picks up lovely
