Default Timing chain kit please help!

Ordered my timing chain kit the other day and picked it up today.

Had a look through the box and i'm not convinced its the right one

The tentioner has no release pin but has a small hole (not sure if this is because its controlled by oil pressure or spring loaded) All the guides i have read for the 2.2 direct engine show a tentioner with a release pin.

Also the Chain sprockets have no int or ext marks like the ones shown in various guides, is this a problem?

Wouldn't surprise me if its the wrong kit as the blokes in part department near me arn't the cleverest and this wont be the first time they've got something wrong

If anyone can advise before i strip my car down and fine out its the wrong kit, its for the Z20NET

    Cheers

What's the part number for what you bought? Oh, and don't rely fully on 2.2 reference material, you'll never know where it's leading you astray from what you need to do on a Z20NET. You should buy the Haynes manual for the Saab 9-3, as it covers your engine.

I'm sure thats the NET tensioner as it has the extra oil hole. You activate it by pressing a pry bar on it when its fitted. I think its only the balancer chain that has the pin. Pop onto the 2.2 forum mate as the new 2.2 kits now have the NET tensioner so they'll be able to give you the correct information.

EDIT: Vocky recommends activating it before fitting LINKY and LINKY.

EDIT# 2: Yep that is the NET tensioner and it has no realise pin.

Cheers fellas, checked on genuinepartssearch and it's the right kit, so the z20net kit is different to the z22se in some aspects.

Pressed the tentioner in earlier as I wondered why it wasn't spring loaded, only to activate it by accident! Doh! Apparently it dosen't really matter as some recommend activating it before and some say once installed.

Getting a Haynes manual when I get chance but will be using guide on z22se and my dads experience when we attempt this on saturday.....wish me luck

will be watching this one closely I have been considering doing it as well... A few ish questions though...

Are you guys changing the chain as well? How much was the kit? have you got a kit part number you can share? What noises etc have prompted you to go for this?

There are better mechanical tensioners for tuned engines as well You should delete the balancer shaft while your at it, for a free 10-15 horses.
