Default Help With warranty please!! CAM CHAIN

Ive just had my car into garage with loss of power (2.2 direct 88000miles regular service) and the garage thought it was fuel pump which they were going to rpelace while waiting for the fuel pump i asked them to change oil and plugs etc
They changed the oil and when they started it up the timing has gone all to **** (I thought the initial loss of power was timing chain related) they say that the chain tensioner hasnt done its job properly when it was started up

I am covered with AXA warranty and my garage has phoned them to put in a claim
AXA have said that they will only cover the cost of repair IF the tensioner has Failed and they will not if the chain has "strectched" now knowing how these companys try and worm there way out of paying
so now I am waiting for the garage to strip it down and find out cause
My question is what is the MANUFACTURER reccomended change interval of a timing CHAIN
Basicly i am after any amunition I can get my hands of for "if" they turn round and say they are not covering it
Im my eyes it is a mechanical failiure and should be covered by the policy for which i bought it for

we all know that this enigine is prone to this failiure so just ned some ammunition ready to tell the insurance company so if anyone has had similar please let me know

    THANKS IN ADVANCE

Been there done that, mine was out of warranty but vauxhall would go halves if I had a full vauxhall service history, It was still cheaper for me to get the full kit and a mechanic to do it private than pay half the Vauxhall dealer bill
Mine was a bit of both... chain had stretched but tensioner had also 'given' so would have been 50/50
Good luck in your claim, I think a good drink in the mechanics back pocket is in order to make sure it is your tensioner that has failed!!

They are saying if the chain has stretched that they will not pay out and if the guides are in my sump they will not pay

Yes they recon they will send a tech guy out my gut feling is that they are gonna wriggle out of it
Ive just spoke to them and they say that there is no reccomended replacement for a chain but if it is stretched it is down to wear and tear

    NIGHTMARE

Just had a thought after reading alot of forum posts regarding this subject
once the car has been stripped down and both the chain and tensioner examined
If the Tensioner is faulty what would be the showing of this on the actual unit (im of the understanding that these sometimes stick)
im guessing that there will be a certain amount of "stretch" on the chain from normal use but i think this will possibly be the warrenty companys "get out clause"
can a sticky tensioner be easily identified? if so what is he looking for?
Failing that does anybody have a faulty tensioner they can send me to compare lol

    thanks again

I believe that the chain is supposed to last the lifetime of the engine, rather than 100k. If it is 100k then it will be stated in the service booklet.

The tensioner is a common fault on the YH mate, where as on the early SE's it was the oil jet. VX now fit the NET tensioner to replace the YH's and SE's

I know that you know that and everyman and his dog know that but i have got a feeling that the warranty company are going to "BLAME" the chain stretching is there any way of proving that the tensioner was at fault NOT the chain?
you know how insurance companys work they are gonna twist this i recon and leave me with a big bill just looking for what to say to them to stop them blaming the chain strectch (if there is any)

You could contact Vocky or Benny on the 2.2 forums mate, Vockys the Engine builder and Benny's the main man when it comes to this sort of thing. Benny's a VX tec so may be able to provide you with some sort of official info, or alternatively some kind person with access to up to date TIS may contact you via PM with the info on there re the YH tensioner failures.
