Default here we go! hassle after my overhaul.......

ok my gsi has had a fair bit of work recently, cambelt, plugs, rocker gaskets, and other stuff so my engine has been apart.

noticed the other day when the car was on axle stands if i rocked the ns/f whell back nd forth there was a clunk clunk clunk noise comming from the gearbox. assume this aint normal

but car changes gears fine nice and smooth. but yesterday i noticed that i was in second gear and the only way i can explain it is that i had a blip a very quick jerk almost make sence? it has also done it in forth aswell.

its done it a couple of time now, do you chaps reckon it would be the box on its way out or maybe something engine related? i cant put my finger on weather its the engine or box. cheers for any insight. Tim

dont think so, 99% sure the knocking cluck was from inside the box. if i place my hand on the end of the box you could feel it inside

thats great! fantastic news! cheers, will probably look in to giving the box an oil change then, just for a freshen up. so must be something engine related then. hmmmmm wonder what????

my rear bank coilpack was completley flooded with oil hole for the plugs were full to the brim because of a failed rocker gasket so im gonna maybe point my finger in that general direction. gonna run it and see what happens next lol

all gearboxes have some backlash, the more miles the worse it will get. Nothing to worry about really.

New oil in the box can only be a good thing

The noise your hearing is from the box but its perfectly normal to hear and feel it when "rocking" the wheel. A brand new car will do exactly the same. Don`t worry about it at all.

cheers, what i found strange is tho, when say your on the road wife driving along, and she comes off the power then on again you can hear the clunk. that really started to worry me! hopefully an oil change will quieten it down a tad. its not loud at atall but noticeable.

Check the rear engine/gearbox mount as they are a common failure on the bigger power vecs !!!!
