Bought mine about 8 month ago after reading up on them they seemed pretty bulletproof, ( compared to the diesels anyway)

In the 8 months I've owned it it's had new boost sensor, timing chain started rattling on start up after a few months so that getting replaced this week. There is a slight rattle from gearbox (either thrust bearing or DMF!) and engine management light comes on every now and again. Car has only done 45k

Other than that it's been fine, I'm averaging 31mpg so not that bad.

Remember though that this engine isn't very popular, so u won't hear many problems, but they do exist!

The 2.0T is a cracking engine and prob most reliable of the lot. I used to regularly get 28 round town and 45 on a decent run.

Its a mixture of town and motorway driving, although mainly town. Yea these engines have Dual mass flywheels too, although its uncommon for them to go, as with all DMF's they will eventually give up.

£1000 is abit steep, more like £600-£700 including labour costs.

Just check for any rattles coming from passengerside wheel arch aswell as rattles on start-up, these all point towards DMF Failure or slack timing chain.

As other have said, there really good engines but do come with there faults! (like most cars these days)

Timing chain will be on the opposite side of the engine from the DMF, Ben.

DMF failure is rare, as the engine doesn't expose it to the level of vibration that a diesel engine does, and in fact it's uncommonly smooth even for a petrol engine, due to the twin balancer shafts.

Faults are usually down to neglect or abuse, and it's probably the most reliable engine in the Vectra-C range.
