The Great Gates of Kiev

I have always been facinated by "The Gates of Kiev" ever since I first heard the Albun by Emerson, Lake and Palmer way back when I was about 18 years old. It was called Pictures ata an exibition by a Russian composer called Mussorgsky. I have had the chance over the years to visit the Gates several times. I did not think I would be seeing a place that I had so much reverance for all those years ago. I have to admit though, on first seeing them I was a little disapointed. But glad I could have completed my "pilgrimage". The gates were restoed in 2007 and do look a lot better than when I first saw them.

Yep been to the Ukraine for a fortnight. I take it no one noticed my absence then................

I had ovet 100 mosquito bites in the first three days. I took repelent and all the stuff you need. But they even bit through my polo shirt. My shoulders were a bit of a mess. I also had to have a Tick removed from my thigh, it was burrowing into my skin. But I enjoyed it there. One of the best days was when we hired a yatch on the river Dnieper. I took nearly 1000 photos in the two weeks there.

Ouch!! that sounds painful!!

Glad the rest of the holiday made up for the pain.

Mind you Pete. They are having a bad time with mosquitos this year due to the wet weather in spring months on the year. It is not normaly this bad.
