    Eek Timing Belt... OMG!!

Me and a mate have just changed the timing belt on my other half's car. It's the Vectra CDTi SRi 150. We reckon it's the original timing belt that we took off. The car is a 55 registration, with 128k miles on the clock. We changed the entire timing belt kit, and the water pump.

WE WERE ****** LUCKY IT WAS CHANGED NOW, NOT ANY TIME LATER!!!

You and your wife are two lucky people. I think you just saved yourselves a massive engine rebuild bill - just.

You could have stapled that back together and resused it.

    You can say that again!!

Lucky my older 2.2 DTi has a chain..........

I have service documents from the previous keeper, claiming the belt was changed at 51k, and again at 97k. We got the car with 112k on it last year. I have just tried to call the dealer's number on the invoices that show the belt change, and the number is not in use . Never heard of the dealer either.........

Tbh my theory with the timing belt is 60k and really don't go over that for this engine. I think it's hit or miss after that. From the mileage firgures you state, either the 60k is pushing it or someone's told a porky about the intervals it was changed.

Sounds to me it's had it's manifold replaced at 97k too.

Do you have dates for those cambelt changes?
How do these compare with the service history?

Post details of the dealership name and address, will do a little research
Dealerships come and go, so may have shut up shop

bad one - good job that was changed. could be down to non-genuine vx parts, bad aftermarket stuff maybe. or even poorly fitted.
i just changed mine the other day for the first time and i needn't have bothered. the parts that came off were completely as new! luck of the draw i guess.

It's an invoice from a dealer called "Matt's Motors" in North Shields, Tyne and Wear. I'm from that area, lived nearby for years, and never heard of this place.....
