Angry Are you paying for a service you don’t receive?

It may be worth checking your water bill, the back page that is.
As a Thames Water user I have just found out there is a hidden charge for the removal of surface water, that which comes off the roof.
Needless to say my surface water goes into soakaways some into water butts.

Hidden away on the back of my bill & not shown as a part of the Service charges was an annual SWC charge of £21.

Take a look guys hth ……………….

There is nothing hidden about that, that would be correct
However if you collect and recycle all the retained water then you can request it to be removed
The water company will then attend the property to determine the percentage which is collected to retained

In Scotland it is covered by a single charge for water and sewerage, but this can be revised into the consituent components
However, they ain't daft and charge very little for the sewerage component so any retained water attracts a very low premium
Equally, for some commercial premises the ratio is reversed, so they pay vastly more for the retained water

My water company had been charging me for surface water handling for over 30 years. My next door neighbour informed me that our houses use soakaways and he no longer paid that charge. I contacted water company about this and they sent an inspector to confirm the situation with the result that I now save about £70 per year. I also received a partial refund backdated to the previous April which was nice, but they wouldn't reimburse me for the previous 30 years.
