    Default Regen Signs

    Hi again all.

I'm wondering if there are any real signs that the car is doing a regen of the DPF? I heard that the EML light used to flash when it was performing one but was removed by VX after complaints?

I would really like it if it would let me know when it's performing it!

    Cheers, Dave.

    MPG goes down.
Really bad considering you buy diesels because of the good mpg!

I also would like to know if there is any definitive sign.

I think some of the older cars (preface maybe) had the spanner light on during a regen, but so many people took the car into the garage when this happened, so now Vx deleted the warning.

Agree it would be good if there was a telltale sign or something that would let you know it's happening.

Do you have a DPF fitted to your car?? - I'm not sure out of the 1.9s which do and which don't... think it's the facelift estates, autos and signums... not sure about 120 vs. 150 variants.

Anyway, the easiest way to spot one is the instant fuel consumption will be awful. Idle fuel consumption increases noticeably (my V6 goes from 0.2 to 1.0 gal/h) and you do not get 999mpg on the overrun. Couple this with a different exhaust note (really only noticeable outside the car) and the engine running rough during the process, and it's quite easy to spot.

Let the process finish: if you interrupt the regen, the car will only attempt to do one next time and bin a load more fuel or if the process is repeatedly interrupted, the DPF will clog and the car will be dragged into a garage on a rope.

Signums and estates have DPF, because of their weight (some euro emission rule or something) and autos.

I usually notice a regen when my average goes to sub 40s, then look at the instantaneous and that's in the 30s!

My DPF indicator is a hole drilled straight through the middle of the filter......when you can't see out of the back window for smoke....you know its doing a regen....simple!!

My common signs on my signum 1.9 cdti 150 are slightly rough idle on tick over and fuel consumption goes up from 0.1 to 0.8 on tick over,it does feel a bit rough when its doing its regen and there is a burning smell which you can smell if sitting on tick over,at a junction etc.I always let the process finish and i havent had any problems, the best way to tell when it is finished is when your fuel consumption goes back down to 0.1 on tick over.Hope this helps, steve.

I have a facelift CDTi 120 so it will have a DPF.

Thanks for the information guys, I'll keep an eye out! I wish there was a way to switch on a bloomin' warning indicator through OpCom or something though!

Facelift 120! Think its only the estates and automatics that have the dpf fitted aswell as the signum.
