If the EGR valve is mapped out does this mean it is closed all the time and therefore a blanking plate is not required? If people do recommend fitting a blanking plate as well...then could you please explain why? Thanks.

No but, mapping it out will tell the ECU to ignore snesor readings therefore the emissions light won't come on if blanked off. As far as I can make out though if you unplug the EGR valve even if the valve is mapped off of the car, the spanner light will come on. This is due to the fact that the valve is not actually 'deleted', but sensor readings used to determine the EGR valve operation are just ignored by the ECU.
Ok, thanks. That explains how the EGR being mapped out actually works, so that the EGR just sits there and doesn't do anything as there are no readings for it to respond to and therefore remains closed, but I'm still a little unclear as to whether or not I need to blank it off? Or will this make no difference whatsoever? Was your answer 'No - a blanking plate is not required' or 'No -it does not mean what I thought and you do need a blanking plate as well'?
Sorry for sounding a little dense!
When I spoke to tuners (chip Tuners being one of them) they said to me you do not need to blank as they map the EGR closed all the time.
For the quid that the blanking plate costs, it seems silly not to...
i know a few on here have had remaps and left the EGR in the map, others have had it mapped out, im still deciding whats best but i may leave it in when i get mine mapped has ive never had problems?
