Default DTi, CDTi Drivers - Opinions Required Please.

    Hi All,
I'm new here! Wanted to join the site to hopefully learn more about the Vectra & Signum with the main reason being that I am in the need for new transport and am on the look out for a 2.0DTi.
From reading of reliability surveys etc I am currently discounting the 120ps and 150ps CDTi versions due to timing belt related reliability issues and allegedly poorer fuel economy (which I find hard to believe so would be interested to know real life examples - can you get over 50mpg in normal use??), although I am keen to get an understanding of real life users opinions.
Also, am I right in thinking that 6 speed boxes were only fitted to SXI, Design, Elite and SRIs?
Look forward to hearing from people and your thoughts.
    Thanks,

I have a '56 plate 1.9CDTi 120 and so far it has been great. 40+ mpg round town and had 65mpg on a decent run.

I wouldn't discount the CDTi's as they really aren't as bad as people can make out. You get problems with ANY car and ANY engine - it's just forums that highlight them more!

Oh, and welcome to the site.

I have driven the DTi and compared to the CDTi there is nothing even close, I found I had to drive the 2.0DTi hard to maintain flow of traffic where my CDTi 150 is such an easy car to make progress with.

Timing belt is the same issue with almost any manufacturer, it has some inlet, egr and injector woes but all are easily dealt with, the DMF can affect both engines in truth I believe so unless the 2.0 DTi was especially cheal maybe look to a 2.2DTi or really, go for the CDTi.

I get around 50mpg and I don't hang around, I could get more if i drove more sensibly I am sure.

I've owned a 2.2dti sri and now have a 1.9cdti 150 sri. The 150 is so much quicker its amazing. I'm only on my first tank of fuel but having done 350 miles the cars range is still reading 300 and that's short runs and city driving.

My '06' plate Signum 150 returns around 42mpg just on short stop/start journeys.
On longer M/way journeys I get up to 60mpg. I say up to but being realistic you have to keep the speed below 70mph to acheive that. But around 56mpg is what I get on the longer journeys, I don't hang around either.

Most cars will achieve the claimed mpg figures the manufacturers publish. We all know that in an ideal world it's not so. Just driving against a strong wind recently on the M42/M40 brought my mpg down by around 5 mpg, a journey I do regularly.

I'm happy with the economy of my CDTi. As said loads of problems can crop up with them engine wise inlet manifolds, EGR valve etc, etc (read the forum) but it didn't stop me buying one. I also read VW, Skoda, Ford etc forums before I bought mine. You'll get similar type problems on em all. One VX independant dealer even said he refused to sell or take in any Signum/Vectra with a CDTi engine in it when I was looking around for one. Didn't stop me buying mine.
