Default Driver Door showing as 'Open'

    Hi guys,

I'm having a problem with the drivers door. When I close it, it still thinks the door is 'open', therefor when I come to lock the car, it'll unlock right away.

I have to give it some force a few times to shut the door to allow it to recognise that the door is 'closed' then it'll allow me to lock.

Most of the time its fine and can open and close it properly all day and lock it without any problems but the odd occasion it'll think its 'open'

Can anyone make any suggestions on possible fixes that I could do myself... bare in mind i'm a complete novice, but willing to give anything a go rather than having to take it to the garage for it to be looked at and get charged through the roof!

Has anyone else had this problem, and what was the fix for them?

    Thanks

    Lew

Alter the catch plate mate. Try moving it inwards a mm at a time until your sorted. There should be mm increments marked on it if I remember correctly.

It sounds like the motor in the lock is about to fail. A fairly common problem. Enough to have a HOW2 written about it. I had to do this on my vectra and it's a real sod!

To help with the central locking situation THIS should help.

Hi Rushy, thanks for your advice. What and where is the catch plate? Is it fairly easy to get to and adjust?

    Try this.

    Replacing Door locks:
    http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=77009

How2 lock the car when locks fail:
    http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=107466

I'd you still can't see the links go to the how2 section of the forum and click in the index thread. You'll find them in there.

    Hi Rushy,

I'm failing to see where this is... do you have any pics to give me an idea what I'm looking at all?

    Cheers

If it's the drivers door, I can't see it being anything to do with the c pillar.

To be honest it doesn't sound like the catch plate. If it was then the door wouldn't actually shut properly. Seeing as the door does shut properly then it sounds Like the electronics in the door lock are fooked. A new lock is about £78 from the dealers. I wouldnt get a 2nd hand one as the same thing could happen further down the line.
