    Default CDTi V'S GOLF!!

I thought my vec cdti 150 was quick & it NEVER usually struggles to see of competitors!, But after a test drive of a 57rg 2.0 tdi gt 170 Golf, It makes the vec feel 'very' under powered!, Although the golf is rather snappy with its power it takes off a lot quicker than the vec 150 almost with its tail on fire!, I was most impressed with the over whelming power in 2nd gear & it made the vec feel s-o s-l-o-w, Me thinks it maybe time to go vw .

I think the clues are in the names - "150" and "170", then add in the fact that the Golf is a class smaller. Would you really expect to beat a 170 BHP diesel Astra with your Vectra, for example?

Different style of engine in the golf they are PD which did produce quite a bit of torque and the gearbox in them are good aswell, I work for Skoda and am thinking next car maybe a vrs Octavia diesel

My dad has a CDTI 150 Astra and felt like a bit of a let down compared to my Golf when in its standard 140 map, was expecting a lot though from the Astra's after reading various things from owners bigging them up, was a tad disappointed though.

Had the fabia vrs here a few years ago. As above the VW dervs are much better than the Saab/VX units. More trq and gear box is very smooth. Trouble is they run out off puff quite quickly in the rev range.

I tested the PD170 in a Leon FR when it first came out, punchy but narrow power band. The 177 bhp BMW derv was a lot lot better.

Have either of you drove a 170? Oh crap they go like stink! Wheel spin is is controlled by the Go pedal!, Its like having a pedal for power from your local electric provider!. I certainly see a 170 gt parked on my drive shortly.

The 170 is a very impressive engine making almost 300ft lbs torque,in the GTD Golf and Scirocco it is a great engine for the chassis, still it should be for the money they charge

See where your coming from jezzy but I've driven lots of diesels but this is something way beyond the cdti for power even if it was matched 170-170 size for size, the delivery is in a totally different class.
