    Default G3 compound by hand

    Hi guys,

So I bought a new spoiler, Painter it, Lacquered it and now I just bought G3 compound. I have tried rubbing it on by hand it does shine a little but I think a machine is needed. Has anyone else used it by hand and does anyone have any advice. A £15 spoiler is starting to cost a lot of money. TBF it was a genuine Irnscher one.

Have you rubbed it down with wet n dry paper? I am guessing it has orange peel and over spray on it, if this is the case you will never get an amazing shine, Rubbing it down will remove that, then use the G3 to remove the sanding marks you will have created.

Orange peel is when the paint surface looks the the outer skin of an orange, which you will never get looking it's best until you make the paint surface as smooth as glass. You can only remove orange peel by sanding it smooth. No matter how good the painter is you will always get it, some more experienced will get it less than others, but it is always there. G3 is very aggressive so it may have left its own marks in the paint, if that is the case you will need something less aggressive to go on top of the G3 after, a quick off the shelf product would be Meg's UC.

G3 doesn't work by hand, get something like one of these drill attachments, then wet is and apply a little G3 to it; the results will be much better.

I know what you mean now. No orange peel on mine though. I'm actually really impressed with the even'ness of the job. It looks really good except the laquer aint polishing up great. May have to try harder. I used 1200 grit on both the paint and the laquer for an even finish

Just has not buffed up how I want. It got a little shine in places but not like the rest of the car. Just ordered the drill bit polisher to see if that helps.

Which grade paper did you use? Was the final coat of colour shiny?
