Need to post this in the right section really!

You will not need a cat for the MOT my car has run a stainless de-cat system for the past 2years and passed both mot's without a cat fitted. Its not law that a diesel has to be fitted with a cat

I looked at cutting out the cat and replacing with a straight pipe, but there is very little to connect a straight pipe to between the flexi link and the cat. Best remove the exhaust at the easily reached three bolts on the turbo after you've had fun removing the turbo heatshield. Then under the car, drop the undertray, remove the front exhaust section (may be tight, needing lots of WD40 and hammers if original). I got the garage next door to my business to remove the front section on their ramp - much easier, and I came back an hour later with the decatted front section to be refitted. To decat, use a 3 or 4 foot long steel rod, pointed at the end. Must use a good dustmask and goggles and also do it outdoors. Takes a lot of effort to begin with. Remove the turbo elbow from the front pipe once it's off the car before knocking the cat out as big lumps can get stuck in it. You must get every bit of cat honeycomb out - don't be tempted to just put a hole through the middle or it will collapse and block the exhaust. Collect the bits of cat in a box or bag to sell later (around £30 to £40). Careful also not to rest the exhaust section in the flexi joint or you may harm it. Refit and after a few journeys you'll feel the difference. Makes no sense to decat if you haven't done the airbox mod and have a dirty air filter, so make sure all is ok there. My exhaust sounded a bit louder inside the car for a while, but now it's carboned up, it seems the same as before until you give it max throttle. Then it growls a bit. Power definitely up and mpg definitely up. Good luck!

new mot starting soon all cars that are fitted with a cat must have them to pass also xenon bulbs fitted then you must have headlight wash and self leveling or it will fail. cat must be type approved so no sports cats
