My Hotmail Account has been hacked

Evening all

Well it was a good today until I checked my hotmail account.

Microsoft tell me it has been blocked due to Spam coming from my account.

Sure enough when I phoned a few people to ask if they received an email from me they had.

I have told them to delete it and will be emailing from another account telling the rest of my contacts, if I can remember them all.

So now I have had to change all my passwords for papal, ebay, online banking etc

What a right royal pain in the rear this is. I have had this account for over 7 years without a problem and I thought my very mixed up password was secure enough. Obviously not then.

I would check your hotmail accounts just in case Im not the only one affected, which im sure im not.

I Could`nt Get Into My Hotmail..Even Though I Knew My Addy/Pw...

After Emailng Them They Then Told Me That They Could`nt Let Me In It

Eventually Got In After I Gave Them More Info...

Was Locked Out For Nearly 2 Weeks...Glad You Got It Sorted Mate...Maybe Just A **** Up Somewhere ?

I asked for microsoft to send me a text verification and twice it never came.

I have sent in the request form to microsoft but I have to be honest I don't know if its going to work. Their questions are difficult to answer as I have not checked my account for several weeks but they want to know what was a recent email and subject which I sent. I have no idea to be honest. I have many email accounts. This one though is what I use for online accounts etc and I don't really want to loose it.

Well we will see in the near future what Microsoft will have to say. I can prove many other things about the account like folders and past content but nothing in the last two weeks.

Oh Soz Mate I Read It Wrong...

Thats What I Was Like With The Verification Things....But I Just Use The Account For Ebay/Gumtree lol So Would Have Thought That It Would Have Been Easy For Them To Check...But Apparently Not

They Kept Sending Me The Code In An Email...Kept Changing PW Successfully...Then When I Tried To Sign In Again...Nope No Chance lol

Its more the case of the computers you are using are compromised. Ms are not responsible for each persons pc security

Yea mine got hacked a couple of years back, binned it as I never used it anyway.

A load of Hotmail accounts including mine got done at the same time a few years ago, the first we knew of it was a message from Duncan saying the admin account was getting loads of spam from us all.

The computers I use are not compromised as I.T is my trade and has been for over 20 years. It seems that the person or persons have somehow discovered my intricate password. It was equivalent to a 128 bit encryption. I have increased this to 256 bit now for all my other accounts.

It's not a rant at MS but more of a warning to others that they are getting better at password hacking.

I was disappointed at MS text verification service that failed to work each time I used it though.

Will have to converse over email now which may take sometime to complete

I am a network engineer and assumed my security was iron clad just like you. Something got through and got mine. Never think you are infaliable, first mistake.
