Default Power Loss Vectra V6 3.0 CDTI

I was driving home tonight , pulled out from a slip road put my foot down looking over my shoulder to check for traffic, when I thought I was in the wrong gear and had hit the Rev Limiter as there was a drop in power, I changed gear thinking nothing of it, as I accelerated up I suffered another loss of power, this time I looked at the Dash to see that I was only hitting 3k rev's yet the car was giving me the impression it wanted to change up,

I did a few checks at different speeds and gears, it seems that the car has become limited at 3000 Revs, then Further along the road the light came on with a cand and spanner, I switched the engine off and back on the light went off but I still can't do more than 3000 Revs, everything sounds OK..??? and the car drives normal.

There are a number of things that could cause this - some fairly benign and some a bit more involved. If you can get the fault code(s) read, it would be a great help.

Have a read of this thread... but you might scare yourself along the way... you'll see what I mean about getting the codes read

This points to blocked SCV's I'm afraid...or if you're lucky a blocked fuel filter only.

Could this be yet another owner affected even though it was claimed it could not happen on the later engines

Post the engine number and compare against the list
How long have you had the car?
Is it covered by a warranty?

Sounds like worst case is SCV. Best case is either a blocked fuel filter and / or air in the fuel lines. I mention the latter in the link I posted. So far replacing the fuel lines in tbhe engine bay and fitting a new filter has worked for me (actually fitted a Racor marine one, as boat bits are a bit more generic and I know I can make good airtight joints).

Try replacing the fuel filter, if it cures the problem, great. If the cure is only temporary, then it's likely one or more quick release joints have failed and air is being drawn into the fuel system. There is no lift pump on the V6, so a leak allows air in. This causes fuel starvation and symptoms similar to blocked SCV.

If you change the filter element yourself, you will need to top the filter body up through the bolt hole, whilst maintaining downward pressure on the assembly to maintain a seal. With pressure maintained, replace and tighten the bolt. If you don't do this, you will leave a big air gap at the top of the filter. Bear in mind when you top the filter up, there is a possibility of contamination from dirt around the bolt hole, so clean it before reassembly (this is another reason why I did not buy a VX filter: I also put a hand primer bulb in the system, so I can reprime without introducing contaminants.

If this makes no difference whatsoever, then it is likely the SCVs are shot. This is an involved job, as they are located on the fuel pump, which has a few hours of labour's worth of manifold etc. shoved on top of it.

    From Field Remedy 1957:

    Field Remedy: 1957
Subject: Engine Y30DT, High Pressure Pump - Lack of power during acceleration
    Models: Engines: Option:
    Vectra-C 2003...2007,Signum 2003...2007 Y30DT| Z30DT,Y30DT| Z30DT
Complaint: Engine lack of power during acceleration. During investigation with TECH2 a pressure drop between actual rail pressure and desired rail pressure is visible.
Cause: Blocked suction control valve (SCV) within the high pressure pump.
Production: Modified production process (earlier changing of manufacturing tools, improved cleanliness) implemented at supplier. Countermeasures were implemented with engine number 69692 (01.09.2006).

I had the fuel filter changed, it was great for about 10 miles then did the same thing, I took it to another garage who recommended a local scrapyard who apparently specialists in Vauxhall Diesels, I went there and the guy said Instantly it was the DPF filter and I should run the car at 3000rpm for 30 mins, I've also been reading about the Vacuum pipes and the similar symptoms.

    Does a 56 plate Vectra 3.0ltr V6 elite estate have a DPF..??

Where Do I find the Engine Number ??

    thanks for the help Btw
