screeching when starting ??

Hi guys. got an occasional problem when starting the car sounds like a loud screeching/spinning noise?
Its not the ticking of the starter. but i dont know if it could be the teeth on the starter away. thats just a guess. if anyone can help id appreciate it. it doesnt do it all the time it can go days without doing it.

Tbh it sounds more like a dodgy aux belt or tensioner

Could be a bearing in the starter motor.

If it cranks the engine normally, then screeches for a only a second once you turn the key to pos.2, then stops the noise with the engine sounding fine, then it's likely the starter motor bearing. Anything that carries on screeching once the engine's running is a different fault.

sounds like the alternator belt,could do with a tweek?

tweak or dress the belt..OR change it..cheap n easy enough..

as said above 99% that its the aux belt tensioner failing

easy to change and lovely and silent once youve done it

A slipping belt makes a very characteristic sound, so does a knackered starter bearing.

Thanks guys i'm just waiting to hear it again . just to clarify there is no problem of noise when car is running its just in the occasional start up ?

Just to update Been to the garage and he thinks its the starter. on another note when on the motorway the other day the car seened to loss power and felt like it was dragging itself when trying to over take the eml came on and the car went into limp mode couldnt rev it over 3000 revs had the light reset and new maf fitted . didnt change anything. so the old one was put bk on. now the car can rev right through. Took it a spin there but doesnt seem quite right when booting it. the car is not fast i know but im sure theres something wrong. im not sure what else could cause this ?? Any opinions guys
