Default 1.9 CDTi Intermittent smoke, smell, noise..

Sitting at the lights today I noticed smoke around the car, as I was sitting next to an old transit I assumed it was coming from that but sadly as I continued on my way I realised it was coming from my car.

It's happened on 2 occassions now and disappeared again.. smoke appears to be coming from under the car, or from the engine area - not from the exhaust, the smoke isn't dark.. bluey-white I'd say. When this happens there's also a burning smell and the engine appears to sound 'rough'... seems to happen when the engine is up to temperature.

    Any thoughts?

As yours is a diesel, i would say it was doing a clean out of the Diesel Particular Filter (DPF).
If you look at the instant fuel consumption it world normally read 0.1mpg, when it’s doing a clean, it will read 0.9mpg, the acceleration will also be poor, if you drive around it should be cleaned out a little quicker, if your unable to drive around, it can get a bit smoky, & very hot, i would recommend not turning off the engine until the car has completed the clean out.

For more information on this subject type in DPF in to the search box at the top of the web site, this subject has disused many many times.

    Hope this helps.

    Not that I've noticed.

I gave the car a good run today and it drove as sweet as a nut.. I guess that would back up the DPF theory. Fingers crossed.
