engine cutting out.

hi i am new on here. i have got a 54 plate vectra 2.0 dti estate.it has 79,000 onthe clock.when out driving the engine management light comes on loss of power. switch it off then it restarts.it feels like it is about to run out of fuel.it does this nearly every day then its ok for a while. i am afaid to take my wife and children out in it because i cant trust it. ihave changed the fuel filter and glow plugs. can any one help?

What equipment was used because if the light came on it has stored a code.

i spoke to my mate who said the only code that came up was battery dissconnected at some point he cleared this. as far as i know there are no code numbers present.

Would be worth getting the codes read again, may be one stored but not "current", so not putting light on

Some readers / software can only investigate the 'engine' light, not the 'spanner' light codes.

I made this mistake with my first code reader - thing said everything was OK, even though the spanner light was shining brightly!!

the engine management lights up then loss of power. turn off engine then light is out ,but plays up now and again

Hi jas
as the lads say you really need the codes read,guessing is hard work but have you ever cleaned the egr.you may find it's carboned up,but you usually get an 0400 code
