Default Diesel units in a Saab

Chaps - so looking at the 95 Diesels as an addition.

So what I understand is that the 1.9 is the same as the 1.9 in the Vec-C pretty much,

    but, the other two units:
    3.0 V6 and the 2.2 TiD

What do people know about these.. Is the V6 the same as the CDTI Vec V6? Good reliable unit?
Also - the 2.2, do people know much about that?

Looking for a combination of MPG (important) as well as a nice engine to drive.

    Thanks in advance

    A

Forget the 3.0TiD if you want a reliable car. While it is the same as in the Vectra, the Saab has less cooling which kills the engine prematurely.
The 2.2TiD is just right imo

The 2.2 is identical to the 2.2 DTI fitted to the Vectra C, and is regarded as a good 'un.

As said, Saab dropped the 3.0 V6 because of cooling problems which the Vectra did not suffer with.

I have a SAAB 93 2.2 TID ( an 02 plate) with 170000 miles on it. Its still very smooth and is very punchy ... infact its quicker thru the gears than my 52 plate Vec SRI but identical engine...perhaps the Vec is a heavier car ?

WHat i would say is the SAAB isnt a nice to drive as the Vectra...quite cramped, not as refined maybe

I have a 9-5 1.9TiD, 150 bhp version, and so far i cant fault it. Completely disagree with The Flying Banana, mine is like driving sat in an arm chair it is so comfortable, mine does however have the top comfort leather seats which were a ridiculously expensive optional extra, so i'd imagine that makes a large difference.

Yes on the 9-3 they are using the twin-turbo version of the 1.9 CDTI engine that Vauxhall/Opel passed on in favour of the 2.0 CDTI.

The new 9-5, being an Insignia in a posh frock is using the same 2.0 CDTI engines as the Insignia, with the addition of a new twin-turbo 2.0 CDTI.

They dropped plans to use the 1.9 Twin-turbo. Twin-turbo 2.0CDTI due for release on the Insignia in the near future AFAIK, with something like 200bhp on tap.
