Eek cam ? typical newbie question

Hi all. I have vectra c sxi dti 2.2 03 plate. Bought it a couple of weeks ago. The service is due so went to my local garage and the man said I was due for a cam change. I was sure this car had a cam chain and this wouldn't need changing as has shown no issues since I had it. But I'm not that mechanically minded and don't want to pay 350 quid for something that I don't need or may not even exist? Anyone can help me please?

I would be worried if it needs a cam change, that is mighty expensive and suggests an internal engine component fault that needs investigation
Surely actually means a cambelt change?!?

What mileage is the car on?
On what basis was the advisory for a cambelt change?

If it is required, then make sure it is the cambelt kit (and not just the belt itself) and ask for the original back once removed
However, as above, this engine does not appear for a cambelt change interval, although it does have an interval for the auxiliary belt of 40K miles

Go back to the mechanic, ask where the cambelt it?

Pretty sure the 2.2 IS chain and unless its rattling I would leave it.

Maybe ask the garage again to show you the cam belt lol

    confused

    Hi, thanks for quick replies.
The car has 140,000 miles. Full service history which includes toothed belt changes but there is no boxes to tick in the service box for cam belts. Garage man suggested it as I didn't know when it had been changed as I didn't think it had one lol he did say maybe my boyfriend could go with me next time!
Doesn't make no noise except knocking where bushes need changing.

I would avoid that garage on the basis of what he has said to you.
