    Default TV tax - abolish?

Recent news: F1 has been dropped from BBC to cut costs - (it currently costs just £60million/year to show it, out of the vast £3billion we pay in tax) -
which way would you vote if a referendum was held on whether to finally get rid of this absurd tax that they call the "licence fee"...

If they scrap TV licensing, they'd only find another way of getting our hard earned.

IMO the BBC have some of the best quality programming (wheather you like it or not is another matter). Personally think it is good value.

At the other end of the quality scale you have channel five....

The BBC actually has quite a lot of revenue streams, the only exclusion is commercial adverts between transmissions

About 1/3 of the annual income is from commercial contracts, such as ticket sales, product placement, products sales, and other commercial ventures

Is it worth sacraficing £145 each year for adverts between transmission?
Personally I like it "as is", allowing longer transmissions to be shown uninterrupted
However, if the decision is made to introduce such adverts then the TVL has to be withdrawn rather than the "token gesture" which was proposed many years ago

These have the right idea, if they can do it so can the UK -- Slovakia is to hold a referendum on the abolition of the TV licence fee and its replacement with a public fund. .... SaS started collecting signatures for a petition in 2009, announcing in January 2010 it had more than the required 300,000

I have no problem with the BBC charging a fee - but do it the way SKY does (i.e. pay for it if you want to watch it). Too many overpaid, greedy fat cats running the organisation as it is, they have it way too easy living off this tax

No objection to the license fee... but you should be able to opt out of it!!!!

I don't agree with having an automatic TV tax regardless of what you watch. We would not pay for a full tank of fuel if we only put half in...
