    Angry engine problems 2.0 dti

i have a 2005 2.0dti signum and yesterday when i tried to drive it to work as i started the car the service light in the middle of the tach came on. at first the car idled fine for 10 seconds or so before violently juddering and cutting out ( all with out me even trying to move the car). a few minutes later i tried the car again to get the same result. today i am going to have a look to see if i can find anything but does anyone have any tips of where to look or things to try?

Best to try and get the code(s) read then take it from there. Other than that, it's a bit of a guessing game, unless you can see anything obviously wrong?

A couple of possibilities spring to mind. Check that butterfly valve in the inlet manifold elbow can move freely. It can get coked up and get jammed closed. By default it should be able to spring back. Move thenplunger arm back and forth. If there's resistance remove the elbow and clean it out. Don't lose the gasket.

Another possibility is that you have air in the furl line. This is usually caused by the leak off pipes perishing and letting air into the system. This is more noticeable when you park on a hill.

Also make sure all your vacuum pipes are connected to the solenoids and that there are no nicks in them or the rubber connectors haven't perished. This usually causes limp home mode when driving but if ones fallen off it could cause the car not to start.

    Vacuum pipes shown below.

BTW the spanner light through the car isn't the service light. It means the ECU has recorded a fault code. There may be a friendly member on here in your area that'll read it for you otherwise it's all guess work.
