Just started taking the Plenum apart because i need to change the rear coil pack (3.2 V6 Siggy)

After I took the Plenum cover off i found it seems to be covered in oil

Having never done this before is that normal? does it just need cleaning up now and again and hasnt ever been done? or is there a problem?

Sorry for the size of the images im in a bit of a rush

I hated the fact that my throttle body / plenum was getting so dirty so I cleaned mine all up and fitted and oil catch tank to catch the oil vapour and mayonnaisse.

My plenum and throttle body now remains crystal clean, and all I have to do is empty the catch tank every few weeks!

I connected the Throttle Body end of breather pipe already in place, to the inlet on the catch tank and purchased another breather to Throttle body pipe from the dealers, to run from outlet of the catch tank to the TB. I use a couple of those round plastic scourers inside the catch tank to act as a filter media.

This ensures that the breather can still vent under vacumn but none of the rubbish reaches the Throttle Body.

How 2 is above. I attached the catch tank to the font side of the battery compartment. Only takes about 30 mins to install. I'll take a picture and post up.

I paid abut £25 for the catch tank (a silver aluminium one). I know people have made DIY ones using plactic bottles, but I'm fussy and did not want a plastic bottle in my engine bay! I also bought an extra breather to throttle body hose from the dealers for about £20, and a pack of round plastic scoures for a £1 (I put two in and wash them (and the catch tank) out every six months when I change the engine oil.
One other tip is to use a bit of plastic tubing on to extend the inlet whole further down inside the catch tank, this helps to stop the oily vapour being sucked back through the catch tank outlet hole, and back into the throttle body.
