    Default Lumpy Engine

Guys, Have had a problem for a while now, the engine, cold, or hot, gives intermittent very lumpy idle.

Car is an AUTO estate 1.9cdti 150

Just had the cambelt/waterpump done by local mechanic, & when I showed him the problem, he thinks is a loose flywheel. gave me a guesstimate of approx £500 inclusive of parts.

Anyone come across this on an AUTO?

    Regards,

mines a manual, do you mean as though its rough or uneaven on tickover but not as though its the engine as sutch, more like an in-balance?. mine does this sometimes hot or cold but not all the time, i was thinking or knowing really it maybe the flywheel cos it has the slight rattle of death sometimes aswell.

Hi, I dont think its the engine, I do think its a balance thing. the only thing that gets me is that its intermittent, the mechanic said this was probably due to the metal expansion/contraction etc. He is quite a clued up guy, so will just let him get on with it!!

When it happens next watch the exhaust tail pipe to seen if you get any puffs of blue smoke.

I had your problem on my 05 z19dth manual , everyone said it is the fly wheel,so i changed the whole clutch assy. but my problem just got a little better but did not go away. ( this was due to the new flywheel wich was better than the old one).

the problem was my crack- pulley , witch was in one piece. the only difference between the new and old was, that when droped from ~2 feet on the ground the old one had a mettal rattle the new one sounded solid.

    hope that helps

just take out the pulley and dropp it on its side and listen to the sound.
