    Default Ordered auto-clay

I finally got around to ordering myself some Bilt Hamber auto-clay. Not an epoch-making event, I'll grant you! But I am excited and cannot wait to give it a try. The lower panels of my Vectra are really covered in ingrained dirt, especially the front doors. You can feel it when you have cleaned the car and are drying it because it picks up on the microfibre really badly.

When I try it, I'll be sure to get some photos, if I can find a way to get some close-ups of the ingrained dirt before and after claying.

I've never clayed before. But the BH stuff sounds from the reviews as though it is easy to use.

Next I need to get hold of some compounds, polishes, mops and polishing pads. A starter kit would be ideal. I already have a Kestrel DAS-6 waiting in the garage. Any ideas? I am on a bit of a budget but will get there!

Paul your lumps on your doors are probably tar deposits and should be removed before you clay the car, try some Auto glym Intensive tar remover or use your autosmart rep and get some tardis this will do the job for you.

Remember to cut your clay into 4 pieces, in case you drop it on the deck, your not going to have to bin it all.

Compounds, to many to pick from and each has there favourites. Im using the Mirror Glaze range from Meguiares, Im using #82 and #83. Very good polishes and very good value for money. Im buying from the seller below on Amazon, I have no idea how he is able to sell it this cheap, and P&P is only £1.20 too!!!! No need to go above #83 unless yours is really badly scratched or been washed with a brillo pad. I like the Megs range as they have the Cuttometer on the side making it easy to know what to use.

Using pads from Monza at the moment, 2 for £9.99, orange for cutting, black for finishing,

I have some AG Intensive Tar Remover, so shall give the panels a going over with that first. Thank you, Bob!

Indeed I shall cut it into four. I shall form it into a small puck that I can ease over the paint surface with two or three fingers. I have a trigger bottle and shall keep the paint well wetted as I work.

I know! I find it confuzzling! That's why I asked. I also wanted to find out if someone, somewhere markets a budget starter kit with compounds or polishes, pads and mops. I am looking around but that may have to wait until another pay day. Baby steps.

I shall take a look at the Amazon links. Thank you!

Not a lot, I suspect! I bought my pressure washer from them back at Christmas!
