    Default K&N panel filter

Was thinking of getting one now i've done the air box mod, was just wondering if anyone out there has got it done and what you've found with them? Any good or not worth it?

Masses of us have them fitted - me included in the 3.2 GSi. Without stripping the engine and checking for damage all I can say is there is no noticeable change up or down in fuel consumption, but shortly after the changeover I did feel that low end pickup was much easier.
Some people talk of a better sound too - I can't say I noticed any difference.

As it only needs cleaning and respraying every 40,000miles I'd imagine the biggest plus point would be the equivalent cost of replacing standard filters in that time.

K&n claim a small increase in bhp , the only noticeable difference you will notice will be the engine note , but all in all it only becomes a feasible option if you do a fairly high mileage, or you intend to hang on to the car as in the end you will save money by not having to buy replacement,s every year

Several years ago one of the car mags did a survey on all the after market panel air filters , along with there related cone filters , then weighed it against cost of initial layout , and ease of fitting etc .
The k&n panel filter came out top in the overall rankings , but as others have said there was no discernable increase in performance

No performance gain, but you never have to buy a new filter again, just give it a clean, so that will save a few ££££. Only thing i've noticed is the temp of the engine before filter it was 90 now it sits on 85

It does however cost rather a lot for the proper cleaning chemicals and oil for these filters. If you leave it 40k miles before cleaning then fairynuff, will be cheaper but if you clean every year then probs a paper filter would work out as cheap if not cheaper.
