Schu retires tomorrow, this will mean more YouTube tributes about him, somewhere along the line I'm glad to see the back of him and his cheating ways.
History will write him as a legend, and i suppose that could be seen as true in a way.
His best was while at Benetton, then he was a class act, who drove fast in a slow car, in the wet or dry, and against some of the best ever F1 drivers, then for my money it all went wrong, he shunts a driver off to win the championship, he half heartedly does the same to Jaques in 97 but fails and Jaques gets what was rightly his, then he employes many team mates over the yrs to hold up the field while he builds a good lead, good tactic maybe, but in my eyes unsporting and boring to watch.
So for my money, here's my top 10 drivers of my era 76-06
1 Ayrton Senna
2 Nigel Mansell
3 Ronnie Peterson
4 Niki Lauda
5 Alain Prost
6 Gilles Villenurve
7 Michael Schumacher
8 Mika Hakkinen
9 Jean Alesi
10 Nelson Piquet
Not for wins, but for overall performance as a GP driver and entertainment value.
My prediction for today is this, Schu will blast away off the line, and Alonso will be taken out by someone else, someone whose team might just use Ferrari engines
I put him at #7 because of his record of winning, had he been always fair he'd be #2, and I think thats spot on, nobody but nobody will ever replace Ayrton as the #1 driver of all time, ask any expert on F1, they'll only echo what i said.
