    Default pads and discs

So like an idiot i ignored a bit of grinding noise when i brake pretty hard, and i also ignored the constant screeching from the brakes when i aint got my foot on the pedal. So ive got a feeling im gonna have to replace the pads and discs.

Looks like a fairly straight forward job to do the pads and discs (really should invest in a torque wrench actually). So im gonna tell the work im workin from home for a few days and fix everything. Ive been looking around at pads and discs but as with everythign theres a million options that mean nothing to me.

I dont go racing in the vectra, its a 1.9 CDTi 07 plate, so i dont need no super vented £300 discs thats wrapped in a box printed with buzzwords. I just want some reliable brake pads. So which are my best option.

I also will probably need at least one disc replacing too due to my stupidity. Do these need to be replaced in pairs (i.e. driver front and passenger back) or can i just do the one that needs replacing. Also what should i be looking at when buying a new one.

I aint loaded with cash at the moment, got £500 a month coming out of a tight wage package for the car loan. So if i do need 1 or more discs, i'd rather pay a little less on the pads this time round. But if you can post up some suggestions and some price figures (or even better where i should be buying them from too) on the parts i'll see what i can find down the back of the sofa

    Thanks

You want the front and rear disc and pad kits for 285mm and 278mm discs mate. Total cost from the dealers won't be over 150, possibly quite a bit less.

    285mm fronts - 93186297
    278mm rears - 93186300

You can only buy them in pairs anyway, and this way you're sorted for a long time to come...

ha amazing, glad i asked now. I was clearly looking at the wrong ones. I was expecting a rather large bill. So do you reckon its worth replacing all the discs just for the sake of it ? im guessing even without mindless stupidity the discs need to be replaced every once in a while so i may as well do it now ?

It's silly not to mate. It's only a few extra bolts to get the discs off, and you can't just replace one because you end up with uneven braking effect on each axle. Assuming you're fitting them yourself, it's an easy enough job and you'll be pleased at the end of it, especially considering the price VX will charge...

Go armed with those part numbers though, as if they try and sell you them as pads and discs separately the cost is huge - buying them as the kit is much cheaper...

fair enough, so yeah just do them all. Im a little wet behind the ears on all this. only been driving just over a year, so my mechanical knowledge is limited.

Whats this vx trade card thing? how do i get it ? do i need to use it regularly e.c.t.? Im thinking of doing a full service asap so if the discounts are worth while then i'd probably make any fee's paid back quite quickly ?
