    Default Snowflake repairs

Need to know if it's possible to fix a crack on a 19" snowflake, it's on the inside edge and stops at the bead? If so how much should I look to pay?

    Cheers guys

There are people that fix alloys.

There are people that are coded welders. My mate is one. It was one of the 'don't do this' things he was taught. Alloys are cast, the repair consists of grinding out a fillet and infilling with weld. The weld metal has totally different molecular and crystalline properties to cast alloy. You then introduce 2 separate structural interfaces into a safety critical component.

Of course, there will be someone who will say I'm talking ***t. Personally, I would weigh it in and buy a new one. Just my $0.02...

Yup, was told the same thing by several specialists when I had a cracked VXR wheel, basically "don't do it" was the answer. I did find a company in Milton Keynes that said they could do it, but on weighing it up, I got a new wheel and got rid of the cracked one.

As hebblemarine says, they don't actually "weld" it back together, the cut a wedge out and fill it with weld, hit a pot hole on the same bit and it will just break again and could make the wheel fail.
