    Default Blue smoke/Chugging!.

I know there's been a few posts regarding cdti blue smoke/chugging on start up, Has anyone solved this problem?, Ive been giving mine some attention trying to solve this, So far I know i have some faults but still trying to pin point the cause, I have a rattling/off balance dmf that does give an uneven run on tick-over, I have a small amount of black oil on the shafts of 1+2 glow plugs (checked & plugs are working, could be slight valve stem seal leakage), The thermostat I'm pretty sure is knackered (sticking open & running cold), If anyone else has this smoke & chugging have they checked there glow plugs?.

Im pretty sure the chugging is the solder joints in the throttle body there is a how to somewhere for it, its also known for the throttle body to fill with oil just needs emptying out from what iv read.

Mine does it, funny you mention oil, mine too, has a rattling DMF and there is oil around the manifold flaps. Also noticed what looks like a drop of diesel sitting round injector seal no. 4. The chugging was a bit worse before thermostat was fixed too.

Ok sounds like there could be some comparisons!, Just to clarify, I fitted a new manifold some time ago & its all working fine, The swirls are bone dry as is the injector area, My throttle body has had the re-solder & has never had any oil inside of it, I have been venting to atmos to try & suck any oil residue from the intercooler(now running normal just to rule this out), My EGR is semi blanked with fiat oval & square gaskets, EGR is as new clean & working 100%, The dmf is rattling & feels as though its off balance on tick-over, As mentioned the thermostat is shot so maybe i should do that first anyway as its been a to-do job for some time now, The blue smoke's annoying & looks even worse with having twin exhausts.

EGR is possibly at fault then.

I doubt oil venting is going to affect idle in anyway, but if anything, it would make it idle smoother.

Ive got 2 egr's & swap them round when 1 needs cleaning, I clean them in oven cleaner & they come out brand new!, Ive had both on & still get the smoke, Not tried them without the semi blanking gaskets though as i never had the smoke for a long time after fitting them. I know this is quite common on some cdti's but its obviously no right but putting a finger on it is another thing. Cheers for the replys so far guys!.
