Default 3.0 cdti map or tuning box- are they safe?

Hello everyone im currently looking for a vectra to replace my current 150 cdti. Im either going for another 150 as I think there great on fuel and powerfull and mine has been very reliable and its on 135k! or i might try a 3.0 cdti. Its just ive been thinking of getting a 3.0 but my boxed 1.9 is running around 180bhp and wondering if anyone has fitted a tuning box or mapped a 3.0 without any probs? As it just seems a tuned a 1.9 has the roughly the same power as 3.0????

Don't do it. The 3.0 CDTi does not like tuning, even more so on the Euro 4 184PS version of the 3.0.

The fuel pump is the weak link and at £2800 to replace just for the pump it is not work the risk. Mine failed after 888 re-mapped it.

If left alone the pump is perfectly reliable.

from what Ive been told/read the gearbox on the 3.0V6 CDTi is at it's torque limit so tuning/mapping will cause major issues

The 3.0's don't really like being tuned, more so the newer ones (z30dt). Having said that, ian_c on here has had an Irmscher tuning box on his car for a couple of years now I believe and has had no problems with it.

I think you're right on the nail there m8.

    Ditto the above comments.

Suuuuuuch a shame, as this engine, if it was the same specific power as the 1.9 150 would be 236hp. Around the same as the Renault 3.0 dci 235... same engine remapped...

Yes as said it is an ealier car, and it only adds about 25bhp.

The renault engine has way more than a re-map, fuel pump, turbo, injectors and mapping are all different.
