    Default Speedo Chrome Rings

    Hey all,

Wondering if someone knows the answer, I have a LS model with the most basic of speedo faces. I've seen other models have chrome rings around all four dials, are the rings something you can buy and stick on? I'm guessing it's obvious Vx won't but maybe there's an after market supplier that might?

I really don't want to replace the speedo unit, anyone know if this simple thing exists??
    Cheers.

I tried that on my SXi, managed to get a set of the rings off someone who had a spare set. The lower models don't have the locating holes for the studs on the rings either, so you have to cut the pins off them and stick them on. Good luck trying I stuffed mine up big time when I did them.

Easiest way is to buy an SRi dash off ebay and use the front of that and the rear (and the circuit board) of your original dash, that way you keep all your correct mileage etc etc

Lol, I couldn't remember who it was that had sent me them, forgot it was you, yeah, lol I really stuffed the dash up when I did them, I superglued the rings on and spilled some glue, tried to remove the glue and melted part of the dash front, I ended up buying an SRi dash in the end and using the front of that onto the back of my original SXi dash.

Of course that was last year, I got my other Vec back in September which is an SRi and had them fitted as standard lol

    Hi mate,

I also had this issue on my 2004 LS. It was drving me nuts having the plain black dials which were uuuuuber bland at best. Even with the Blue SMD conversion I had done they still looks bad. so.....

There are a few options here which may or may not have been covered...

You can 1 swap the full clocks for a new set with the rings or change the dial cards accross on your existing clocks.

Both are suprisingly easy to do and require little skill... just more time and asteady hand.

For me, as I had the conversion done I decided to swap the dial cards across. I used the howtoguides ion here for first taking the clocks out (2 screws, a plug conector and the front dash trims off with a tug) and then the guide on how to take them appart (some clips on the clocks, some very small touque screws and the needles off). The hardest part was finding cheap dials on ebay which matched my car's current dials and spec. That took a few weeks to do.

This is the end result I now have in my car...

    Fromt this...

    To this...

In all it took me 30 minutes to do...

As far as I know you can also swap the clocks from a similar modela nd they will go right in so in theory you could fit even the VXR ones into your car... Only isuess with this are you need to find clocks which match your car (petrol for petrol and Derv for Derv etc) IF you have a pre faclift you will also need ones which offer the check function on the rev counter (window with the bulb warning and door open light etc). The millage will also be off on the clocks (although will be accurate on the cim moduel).

While I am on the suibject... as you have the LS I am assuming you have the four spoke plastic wheel? If so scoure ebay for either a signum being broken or a signum wheel which matches yours (four spoke withthe same controls for the radio etc... I have now changed my for a leather number and whata difference it makes. That one took longer to do on ebay (about 4 months of searching) but was worth the wait. Changing is a 30 minute job also and there is guides on here on how to do it.

    hope this helps.

    Colin

Not the best pick of the type of speedo I had (this pic was one I found a pic of online). The orignial went to 170 (the numbers where just writen in a different way on the dial cards) but the marks are the same.

I have checked the speed with a road angle and a sat nav and all confirmed they are still as acurate as they were before (about 3 mph up on the true MPH).
