Default 3.2 V6 - common oil leak locations?

There's no doubt my 03 3.2 V6 automatic is leaking oil - the smell is unmistakeable, and plenty of bits at the bottom of the engine and nearby are covered in a film of oil (including where the exhaust passes under the engine, hence the smell).

Thing is, I can't spot the source of it. It doesn't help that I can't get under the car properly (ie I'm limited to what I can see by crawling under - no ramps or axle stands) but none of the obvious candidates (sump plug, rear main seal) seemed to be doing it.

Is there a common leak location higher up the engine which could be running down the side of the block and coating everything at the bottom? Where is the oil filter located? (I couldn't see it).

It hasn't used much oil to date, but I'd prefer to nip this in the bud before I end up with a stained driveway

if its anything like mine it will be leaking from the rear rocker cover mate.

aparently the rocker covers are made from plastic and over time and heat they warp slightly and allow oil to leak.

That would make sense - I couldn't see the rear, but the front rocker cover did seem to have a little bit of oil weeping from it (albeit nowhere near enough to be the source of this leak).

Another common leak is either or both of the Cranskshaft oil seals - this will show itself on the timing belt side of the engine and probably be seen running off the sump.

The oil filter is at the front N/S of the engine just below the 02 sensors (it's a silver cansiter).
